Have you ever asked yourself these questions…

  • Do people complain because they can’t afford the cost of the event?

  • Do people wait until the last minute to register?

  • If they don’t get CE credit are they not going to show up?

  • Whose fault is it if no one shows up?

I take full responsibility if attendance is low and so should you.

If you are serious about event marketing then perhaps its time to take a new approach on what type of value you can deliver and not just rely on CE to fill the room.  After someone reads your brochure, online registration, or video there should be so much excitement generated that they would be foolish to pass up on your offer.  Find the right influencers and they will encourage their co-workers, peers, and friends to be there which takes the burden of trying to do all the work yourself.

Most event brochures talk about the presenter, the location, the food, not what will the audience walk away with as a result of attending.  Let me be more specific.  If you advertise a class “How to Tie Your Shoes” by Doug Devitre at the Sheraton Hotel 3 hours continuing education with a steamy hot breakfast included is that enough motivation to act now to register?

Hardly.  Let me be more specific.

There is no doubt that learning to tie your shoes is important because if you didn’t then you would trip and fall.  There is no doubt that Doug Devitre will entertain and inspire.  There is no doubt that the Sheraton has one of the best breakfasts in town.  And there is no doubt that people will need CE to keep their license but is all this enough to entice people to spend their money and time away from their business?  No, at least not for those who are serious about their business.

What can you offer that no one else ever has?

Our company has a responsibility to make sure that you, the meeting planner, have the right tools and resources to market the event to the right audience with the least amount of money, time, and energy.  In this “Meeting Planners Guide to Marketing and Technology” we share our best practices from working with the smallest groups to filling auditoriums.

All I ask is that you study this guide, refer to if often, and customize the model we have created for your organization.  There is no one method that works the same for each group.  Implement one idea at a time and monitor your results to improve on each step in the process.

At the end of this guide my goal is for you to:

  • Enhance your skills at selling tickets online.

  • Engage before, during and after the event using social media.

  • Create a positive and memorable experience for attendees.

  • Increase the professionalism, productivity, and passion for the purpose of your organization.

Once you realize how many more individuals will attend your events because of the ideas we share here the more confident you will be in your approach and extend your commitment to making a difference in other peoples’ lives.

Eric Hoeffer says, “In times of profound change (the world we live in today) the learners shall inherit the earth for the ‘learned’ find themselves beautifully equipped to handle a world that no longer exists.”

I’m afraid if you aren’t open to some of these new ideas your company, your event, or your position may no longer exist.

I’m passionate about helping you make the right decisions and feel free to ask me when you get stuck.

P.S.  Please follow the process I have created and refer to the example script provided.  Each sentence, list, and assignment has been carefully created to entice people to attend and get others to do the marketing for you.  You may not apply each one depending on the event, how much time you have, and which tools you use.  Select what is practical for you and share your results with us.  For more technology tips visit http://365TechnologyTips.com “One tech tip a day keeps the extinction away.”
